I graduated from the Soma Institute for Clinical Massage Therapy in 2002. My continuing education since then has focused on learning what contributes to the most common pain complaints, methods for reducing pain and improving movement, and the research supporting both. I've worked as a Massage Therapist in environments ranging from spas to hospitals, sporting events, dance schools and community health clinics. In my work, I integrate condition-specific and relaxation techniques, to varying degrees, according to your goals, tolerance, and improvements over time.
I've taught in entry-level massage therapy schools and provide continuing education to licensed practitioners. I wrote the text book Condition-Specific Massage Therapy for massage therapists interested in learning to apply basic techniques to address the specific symptoms of conditions such as headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, low back pain, hip pain, knee pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, sprains, muscle strain and tendinitis. The book is used in Massage Therapy schools across the country and is also available in Japanese and Korean.
I'm active in the Massage Therapy community. I was a board member and the Communications Chair for the Illinois Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association and was a Delegate to their National Convention. I organized the 2014 and 2015 AMTA-IL education conferences and am honored to have received the 2010 AMTA-IL Distinguished Service Award and the 2012 AMTA-IL Meritorious Award. I currently sit on The Alliance for Massage Therapy Education Certificate Process Committee to promote excellence in teaching.
I had rotator cuff tendinitis. It was very painful and limited my range of motion. My doctor prescribed physical therapy but it was a slow and painful process. Then I started clinical massage with Celia. She is very knowledgeable about my condition and explains which muscle group she is going to work on. The result was almost instant as she carefully identified and separated each layer of my shoulder muscles which were all tangled up.

Prior to seeing Celia, I had poor posture which caused pain and discomfort. Celia has really helped my stiff neck, shoulders and back. Her treatments are never painful and have little to no soreness following. I feel more comfortable when sitting at my desk. In addition, I have noticed a change in my posture - not to mention my general physician and family noticing.

Celia worked on my wrist and elbow after a bicycle accident. After a very detailed discussion and creating a treatment plan, she set to working on my wrist. In a matter of five visits, I was back to normal, with full pain-free functioning in my wrist and elbow. I was astounded at how quickly and thoroughly the wrist and elbow healed! She does truly, truly wonderful work.
— Patti, Professor of English
It seems that most people I work with have back problems. We all have too much heavy gear and not enough time to take care of the problems as they come up. I tell everyone I know to go see Celia. I can't say enough good things about her treatment. She has not only treated my pain, but also taught me how to help relieve the pain on my own and prevent it from reoccurring without using medications. I consider Celia to be a crucial part of my healthcare.

I’ve been going to Celia for several years and consider her to play a vital role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Celia really understands the body and how to resolve aches, pains and injuries. I can't tell you how many times she has "put me back together." She has helped me with stress related tension, a knee injury, a golf injury, a pregnancy and regular wear and tear on my body. Celia truly and genuinely cares about helping her patients feel their best! I don’t know what I would do without her!
— Deanna, Instructional Science
I was fortunate to find Celia through my primary physician. After several visits I find that we are working through much of my joint pain as well as addressing my headache and sinus discomfort. Celia has a wonderful way of creating a relaxing environment while she is treating the ailment and is very open to answering questions.
