It's happening to most of us.

The 2012 National Health Interview Survey found that 54.5% of adults surveyed report musculoskeletal pain. Pain is the most common reason Americans use the health care system, and chronic pain is the most common cause of long term disability.

According to the 2015 American Massage Therapy Association Consumer Survey 52% of people seeking massage do so for pain management, injury rehabilitation, or physical healthcare. 33% get massage for stress relief.
Our new aches or pains are often related to postures or activities that can't be avoided like working at our desks, carrying our children, driving in traffic, and sleeping. Ergonomic changes are helpful, but any posture that's held or activity that's repeated regularly, even the posture at a new ergonomic desk, can affect range of motion and produce pain. When range of motion is limited the risk of injury during sports, dancing and even chores and yoga increases. We can't avoid the postures. We shouldn't avoid an active lifestyle.

Massage therapy can reduce symptoms and prevent aches and pains from becoming chronic.

About Celia
Since graduating from the Soma Institute for Clinical Massage Therapy in 2002, I’ve focused on learning what contributes to the most common pain complaints, methods for reducing pain and improving movement, and the research supporting both. I’ve provided therapy in environments including spas, hospitals, sporting events, dance schools and community health clinics. I’ve taught in entry level massage therapy schools and provide continuing education to licensed therapists. I am committed to learning, teaching, and promoting the benefits of massage therapy for health care. I look forward to sharing what I've learned with you, and to learning more from you. Read more
